The roosters

Posted by Emily | Chooks

Mum has finally convinced me to get rid of Eskimo, Mr White, and Hamburg to make space for the Silkies and Showgirls I want to get. Eskimo had also turned nasty. I had hopped in the pen to fix the nest up, and bam, I copped one in the face. Shook me up a fair bit as I’ve never had a rooster get me in the face before. That was the only place he could get me though, due to my position. So now the pens are empty (The hens were put in with Mum’s black chooks) and the freezer is fuller. Mum has kindly said that I won’t have to eat them. She’ll cook them up for Dad’s birthday as I will be in the Philippines on a mission trip and I’ll miss his birthday.

Eskimo

This is Eskimo. (I don’t know why he is called that. Mum and my brothers named him as a chick. He was one of those chicks that you can tell is a rooster as soon as they are dry)

His dad is Hamburg and his mum (I think) is Butterfly (I’ll post photos of her later).

Here is some more photos of him and his current hens. These hens are going into the pot (or the freezer) as soon as we get some hens to replace them. They are too naughty to keep. They have a knack of finding holes that other chooks ignore.

And another one

This one is soft pastel on  Canson Tex Paper. I did do this one before I did the puppy. This was the first time I used this paper, and I love it. It allows me to put more pastel down without spraying workable fixative on it.

I started this painting with pastel on a canvas, and then put acrylic on the top. I think I work better in pastel though.

Mr White

My gorgeous Rode Island White X rooster Mr White. He doesn’t have a good RIW shape, but I love him just the same.

Mr. Hamburgh
My favourite rooster Mr Hamburgh or  Hamburg for short. When he is naughty, my family sometimes call him ‘Hamburger’.
